Alexander Isak reveals one condition for rejoining Newcastle squad

According to Ben Jacobs, Isak will only consider reintegrating into Eddie Howe’s squad — or extending his contract — if Liverpool directly inform him a deal is off the table.

Liverpool, who had an initial £110 million ($147 million) bid for Isak rejected earlier this month, have not completely walked away from negotiations.

The Magpies, meanwhile, have reportedly set their asking price at £150 million ($201 million) and want a resolution before the transfer window closes on 1 September.

Isak’s discontent has been evident all summer.

He was left out of the squad for pre-season friendlies against Espanyol and Atletico Madrid at St James’ Park, and Howe has confirmed he is not in the plans for Saturday’s Premier League opener against Aston Villa.

The saga comes after Isak’s outstanding 2024-25 campaign, in which he netted 27 goals across all competitions, including 23 in the Premier League — second only to Mohamed Salah’s 29.

His form was instrumental in Newcastle’s fifth-place finish last season, clinching the final Champions League spot on goal difference over Aston Villa.

Liverpool’s interest is fuelled by the need to replace Darwin Nunez, who joined Saudi Pro League side Al-Hilal for £46.3 million ($62.13 million).

The Reds now have funds available but must decide quickly whether to test Newcastle’s resolve with a British-record bid.

Since the 2021 Saudi-led takeover, Newcastle have transformed from mid-table mediocrity to Champions League contenders.

Yet the Isak dispute has cast a shadow over their progress, with many fans frustrated by his apparent push for an exit.

With less than three weeks left in the transfer window, the question remains: will Isak get his Anfield dream, or be forced into an uneasy stay on Tyneside?
